Subject: Re: L50 (Bios 6.50) HDD Upgrade with MK6014MAP (6 Giga)
Hi Azad,
I have just upgraded my drive to a Toshiba 6GB drive
3 weeks ago. I believe it is the MK6014MAP, if not then
it is the MK6015MAP, but definitely one of these two
(I checked).
Anyway, I have a L70 with the original Bios 6.20 and
here is what I did with the drive:
1. Partition the 6GB drive into 3 partitions using
fdisk:
a. 3GB <-- wanted to install Win98Lite here
b. 2.9GB <-- used this as temporary storage for now, Linux later
c. 100MB <-- this is for hibernation
2. As mentioned in an earlier email by Olaf, set the
first partition active, so that it is bootable
3. Format 1st and 2nd partitions to FAT32.
4. I then copied installation files like Win98, drivers,
programs etc. into my D drive through serial cable
connection using Norton Commander. (For those who have
good memory, in my earlier mails, I was asking for
help to detect my PCMCIA CD-ROM in DOS so that I
can do installation through CD-ROM. Well, it turned
out that that method was simply TOO difficult, so this
is the best alternative. But thanks everyone for your
help :)
5. Installed Win98Lite from D drive into C drive.
6. Rebooted. And Win98 booted with no problem. Later
installed drivers and programs.
Try the above, see whether it works for you?
Hope this helps. :)
