Subject: 100CT problems, lots of!

Hello!

Ive bought a 100CT 64Mb at the weekend.
I installed Win98 on to it so that I could use the Infra Red as Ive read
that it works better under Win98 than Win95, more on that later... =O)

The first problem that Im having seems to be that when the enhanced dock is
connected and I have any PCMCIA cards inserted in to it, the speaker makes
horrible hissing sounds constantly, which die off a bit when the lib plays a
sound such as the windows startup. The two cards I have in are a 3Com
Megahertz 56K modem, and a 3COM etherlink III network card. The problem
wasnt there when Win95 was on the machine. The drivers for the sound card
were loaded autoatically with Win98's install, but I changed them for a
download from the toshiba site when they came up as not working properly.
Any ideas?

The floppy drive was seen by the install and I used the download from
Toshiba for that. This didnt seem to work so I am now using the standard
Toshiba PCMCIA floppy drive drivers which were installed from Win98. Is this
going to be OK?

The infra Red port had to be installed manually, it was not found with a Add
New Hardware run on auto find. It has loaded itself in as COM4 LPT3 but the
physical port is listed as being COM1, the same as the docking station. Is
this correct?
Is anyone using a Libretto 100 with a Nokia 6100 or 6150 mobile and either
datasuite 2 or 3?
Ive followed the instructions about not running detect devices for the infra
red app in the control panel, and Ive changed the registry settings, but it
still doesnt seem to work. If I turn the infra red driver on it will detect
the phone, so I think that should be working OK.
Could anyone help me out on that one please?

<background: The nokia 61xx series isnt quite IRdA so you have to mess with
the windows drivers to get it to work>

Also, am I better off having Win98 or Win95 installed, from a view point of
speed and compatibility?

I looked through the installation which I took off the machine, and there
were he files to make up the disk set for installing Win95, although Im not
too sure how to create the first two disks in the set as there are no
specific files for these. Is there a tool to make up the disk set from?

Other than all of that, Im VERY happy with the machine, its taken a while to
get one, and whilst it isnt worth the wait (I wanted it months ago!) Im glad
Ive finally got it! =O)

Had to do a minor fix on the internal PCMCIA slots as these werent ejecting
the cards properly, and took a peek at how to clock it. Not much room for
mistakes there eh? =O(

Cheers

Dave
