This is my approach - I'm slowly transferring my CD and vinyl collection to
128Kb/s MP2 files (the vinyl gets transferred as full bandwidth CDs as well
but that's for convenience at home) and using that compression I can get
around ten or a dozen CDs per CD. I then transfer either complete CDs or
individual tracks (one album per track of course) to spare space on the hard
drive as and when I'm travelling and playback using either Sonique or
i-Media. This gives me around 30-40 albums in 2 gig I currently have spare.
This isn't the best quality available - in particular the frequency response
is chopped at 12KHz or so - but in locations where I'm likely to be using it
that's not a problem. But the little speaker on the Lib is sadly on a par
with a wind-up gramophone (complete with small dog) in the hi-fi stakes!
