For the Libretto, you need to have Windows IRDA installed.
For Win95, go to www.microsoft.com/windows/ -> windows 95 -> download -> irda
update.
For Win98, it should be built-in and after Windows autodetects the IRDA port,
it'll install virtual ports (eg. COM/PAR) for that. If it hasn't already, you
can manually make it go - probably either Add/Remove new Hardware would be my
guess.
At that point, you should test it out. The easiest way is to find a HP laser
printer with an IRDA port, then point and print (after installing the printer
driver of course; win98 should autodetect and autoinstall the printer).
Once you know the IRDA port communications is good, then it's really up in the
air. You should investigate the instructions on the cell phone maker's web
site, see www.deja.com/usenet/ and www.yahoo.com for other people's successful
connects with the specific model and brand of cell phone you have, then twiddle
until it works.
Few cell phones will work correctly over the IRDA with any laptop, so don't
expect wonders right away. You may even need special software from the makers
as well.
If the Libretto Mailing List members and the Compuserve Toshiba Laptops forum
don't have more members to help, maybe a post to the Usenet newsgroups through
www.deja.com/usenet/ will garner more help if you're stuck. I've never hooked
up a cell phone over the IRDA, but I'm sure lots of other people have.
