Ok perhaps we have a miscommunication problem here. The jack end does NOT short but
the plug end when inserted could short the tip to ring, depending on the design.
However since the Plug end is on the Lib and the Lib has a diode in series with the
input and there is NO voltage present on it, you can short it all day without any
problems. The plug end is another problem its on the Cig cable end. There a short
would blow the 1amp fuse in the Cig adapter. On my car (a Tempo) the Cig connector is
Disconnected during start. In fact if I do NOT have the battery in the Lib it will
turn off during starting. As soon as the key is released it comes back on. My Lincoln
is the same as is my LeSharo Motor Home.
This is NOT by far the only way to run your Lib from the Car just one. There are
DC to DC switching supplies but you need approx. 2 amps. A 12v to 110v switching
supply and your Lib power supply will also work. Which I used first.
