Subject: FUBAR 2 - L110 replacement HDD slower?
Had my L110 HDD replaced under warranty and the new drive seems markedly
slower than the old one. I'm basing this on several months use of the
original drive, a few weeks on the new drive, and previous experience of
Win'95/98 on other (slower) machines.
In particular, when using Windows Explorer with display set to thumbnails,
it can be painful just switching directories. Other times, C: is displayed
twice for a second or so, or the directory tree visibly refreshes - slowly,
several times - the HDD light indicating (lots of) HDD activity. This isn't
how it used to be in the days before I had a suntan - is it?
The drive is fairly full (but so was the old one); ScanDisk then DeFrag are
run regularly.
>From comments made by TeleDynamics when they performed the swap, I know the
old drive and the new drive (both Toshiba) were not identical - any
suggestions?
Is it possible I've been palmed off with a "lemon" - or the
wrong drive, even?
Could it be a configuration problem?
1kTIA... Steve
