Oh come off it! A libretto owner complaining about not having a
CD-ROM?

Actually, my 70CT is too slow and I also want a portege, but I don't
quite think that this is enough of an upgrade. I'm looking at the 3490
(700? mhz, 128-256 MB, 20 GB, 1024x768, integrated 56K & LAN, 3.4? lbs,
fast IRda, USB, $2400 direct from Toshiba). Does anyone have any
experience with the Portege line (specifically the 3490)?
Specifically, is a 3.something pound Portege still easy to toss into a
backpack and not really notice it or does the bigger footprint make it
a lot harder to bring along than the Libretto? The weight isn't much
more, but the size certainly is...

It's such a shame that the newest libby is so limited in processor and
RAM. I can see that Toshiba is trying to make this a "niche item", but
I use my 70CT day-in day-out as my only computer, and just can't see
paying $2600 from dynamism for a 266 with 64 MB and a screen with 480
pixels vertically... even if it is the latest greatest libby (with a
camera - whoop de do). Too bad they seem to have dropped the line
completely... I suppose I'll keep my 70ct for what it's good at, and
get something else to carry around and work on daily...

Also, do any Toshiba's come with FireWire or are they not going along
with that standard? I hate the Sony's but they have a machine similar
to the Portege that I won't buy because it doesn't have IR and it has a
touchpad instead of a pointer... but at least it has USB and FireWire.
Given the choice, I NEED my IR, but I hate to buy a computer in 2001
that still doesn't support FireWire...

Any opinions welcome...

Thanks,

David
