I don't know if this wil help anyone or not, but I run Win98 straight
out of the box with no additional drivers at all. I've played around
with downloading drivers from Tosh for my 70, but I've had so many bad
experiences with them that I've stopped. To me it's all very
confusing, there are two or three different packages that contain
several programs each (magnifying glass, floppy drive driver, etc.) but
I found that if you install all of them on 98 (some are apparently
written for 95 ?) then you'll end up with a machine that won't boot. I
had to comment vxd's out of one of the windows files to get it to boot
after my last bout of installing everything. Even then I never used
any of them.
Anyway, the lesson I've learned from all that is not to even bother
with Toshiba drivers. Everything on my 70 works fine. Video, sound,
PCMCIA, IRDA, docking stations, everything. Well, the floppy doesn't
work outside DOS, but I've never liked floppies anyway and haven't used
one for anything but a bootdisk for years....
Anyway, like I said, maybe this will help someone...I don't have a
hairy lightbulb (and personally I think this sounds a little scary!),
or a floppy driver, and couldn't be happier! I can't change screen
brightness, and that might be nice, but it's not worth the hassle with
the drivers!
My motto - if it works don't mess with the drivers!
