As my comments earlier this week - it's easy to create a partition table
which windows can't see. W95 and 98 AFAIK don't use the bios to talk to the
drives but they do get the drive geometry info from it. You can see similar
behaviour if you format an 800M drive with IBM disk manager: it will return
788M. But if you ask fdisk to look at it, it will tell you there's a 740M
disk of which 788M is used...
You can also make a drive which fdisk can't handle, and you can break it so
that you can't boot e.g. tom's linux root boot to get at the linux fdisk.
Don't mess with the partition table of a working drive unless you have
backups...
