Subject: What to do with my 70CT
I'm sorry I haven't been contributing to the list much as of late folks.
Have just had so many things to deal with lately.
I wonder if anyone has any suggestions for just what I can do at this point
with my 70CT. For those of you who may not have followed the thread on my
70CT LCD problems, here's the problem as it stands:
I had thought that the LCD on my 70CT had blown out, since a couple months
back the screen blinked quickly a few times, and then went black. After
doing some testing, I found that my 50CT and 70CT case topsides with lid,
LCD and all components in the lid, both work fine on my 50CT bottom end with
the motherboard, hard drive, battery and the rest of the guts of the system.
Both screens light up and work fine on the 50CT bottom end. Neither top
ends with lids and LCDs will operate with the 70CT bottom end. The screen
remains fully black while the systems boot into Windows without any sign of
life from the LCDs in light or darkness. I have to shut Windows blindly
with keys.
I've looked over the MB components that are visible without removing the
heat sink and gray mylar, and didn't see any sighs of overheating or blown
out components.
I WAS able to connect and get working an external monitor to the 70CT via
the port extender. So the system gets the external monitor working, but not
the internal LCD. It seems to me that some component on the MB , most
likely a chip, has been damaged.
I'm wondering if I have any options at this point. Are there services that
might be able to analyze and repair the unit for something less than the
price of another used 70CT? I don't presume that there are many new
replacement MBs for these puppies... as the CPUs are soldered onto them, and
they've be expensive as all get out. A new MB is probably worth more than
buying another used 70CT. Is it possible that anyone has a used 70CT MB
they'd like to sell (there are probably a lot of you looking for this)... or
I am just looking at keeping what I have as spare parts, and looking around
for another 70CT?
Thanks for any suggestions.
Matt
