Matt,

Just one suggestion I made earlier but you may have missed: on the
motherboard there are several fuses scattered around. They're not obvious -
square section things about 3mm across and 6mm long - but they're marked 3A
and 5A (from memory). It would seem logical that one of these protects the
screen power...you can test with a multimeter in ohms, anything more than
.2ohm or so - measured in both directions - will indicate a broken one. It
will *not* be obvious to the naked eye.

You may have to remove the heatsink, but the fuses are all on the top AFAIK
- I think there are three or four.

Repairing with an exact replacement may not be easy, but soldering a link of
fuse wire of appropriate size should be reasonably easy, if you find a dead
fuse.

Regarding new motherboards, forget it :( You're better off searching for a
*cracked* screen machine - or a complete working replacement - remember you
don't need floppies or batteries or hard drives so you might get a good
deal. Trevor can tell you horror stories there though...

Neil
