Hi there,

Yep, problem is, that hardware factories FORCE these servicemen to replace
the whole board. They don't allow you to modify/repair them on the component
level.

I used to fix huge shipping radars in the Persian Gulf in the 80's, and a
good working radar was compulsory, otherwise Lloyds would not pay the bill
in case of a big 'boooooom'.
Moreover, a fully loaded oiltanker with SIXTY million dollars of cruse oil
just can't wait a week for a new PCB to arrive (just calculate the daily
interest on that value), so once I fixed a radar pcb on the component level.
The shipping company (Shell) was really impressed with our fast (3 hours)
engeneering skills, but later that year, that same PCB broke down on another
faulty component, and they traced us (via the repair reports on board), and
as a result WE had to pay the price of that board (4000 US$), because we
modified it while still under warranty.

See??

Cheers

Robbert
