Yes, I've been told that the Kingston 2GB and 5GB PCMCIA/PCcard HDDs are
made by Toshiba (ie they are the same, different label); and I've read
somewhere (one of the Apple-watching sites) that the iPod HDD is sourced
from Toshiba.

The iPod is Firewire only...  so you'd need a Firewire (or USB/Firewire
combo) card too...  Windows-iPod software is being developed by a third
party - I don't know if this will include the facility to access the iPod as
an external HDD.

I guess the most likely cause of a more "realistic" price will be if (when?)
IBM also adopt this format, and start to compete for a share of the 1.8"
niche, now that Apple use it and a lot of Palm-format handhelds have
optional PCcard slot expansion modules.
