I'm in a similar quandary, but w/o the WinME issue - trying to decide what to
install on a new 20GB HDD. I have run W95 OSR2 for about a year (I know, a
newbie) on my L100CT, and compared to W98 or W98se on other machines (clone
desktop w/AMD K6-2 366, Sony Vaio PII 366 laptop, eMachines Celeron 433), W95
has been very quick in all comparisons important to me. (On the other hand,
until recently I had an old Gateway P75 (yes, 75 mhz Pentium) which ran W98se
quite briskly, all things considered.)

BUT, as others have recently pointed out, USB support sucks in W95 and that
has become a significant factor (on a L100) for things like digital cameras,
printers, and other peripheral goodies. I have not played with it much after
finally getting it configured properly, but IR in W95 is not too good either.
I'm going with W98se. Hope this rambling helps.
