Best to go to the CD-Rom drive's website and download an ENABLER. Copy it to
the HDD and reference it properly in config.sys and boot with the CD plugged
in.

It will look SOMETHING like:

device=c:\cdrom\enabler.exe /p:320 /irq5 /mscd001

THAT gets the PCMCIA CD recognized without card-n-socket services ( set to
port 320 and IRQ5 for example, and also telling mscdex.exe the cd device
"name"

and in autoexec.bat:

c:\dos\mscdex.exe /d:mscd001

will assign a drive letter ( d: without extra parameters ) to the above
referenced CD-Rom drive.
