I have seen ENABLER ( also known as a POINT ENABLER ) on most network cards,
many modem/network cards, some modems, and most CD-ROM drives.

They are handy especially if you don't have the conventional or
extended/expanded RAM for a full suite of Card-n-socket services.

They set the resources of the PCMCIA card directly. They use a phenomenally
small amount of resources to do so.

They are NOT hot-swap, and the card supposedly can be damaged if you try it.
Certainly the OS will puke if you do.
