well when I execute "cardctl ident", it can see that there is an NE2000 compatible 
adapter that has been inserted but I can't figure out how to make it appear as eth0 or 
whatever nor can I figure out how to stop and start the cards ... I'll be stuffing 
around in the kernel in a little while to see if I can get the fdd working, I've heard 
that perhaps the kernel doesn't have support for the NIC yet so I'll check for that 
whilst I'm there ...
