Thanks to everyone who contributed previously on this question, despite the non-Libretto content. I now have a solution, and as I find this to be an especially groovy utility, I'd like to share it with you. 1) What does it do? 2) What was the problem? 3) What is the solution? === WHAT DOES IT DO? === PicaView adds itself to the "File" menu in Windows Explorer so that you can Alt+F,V or right-click, and do various things with your image files instantaneously without having to load an image editing program. If you're looking at and rotating pictures on an ad-hoc basis - something I do a great deal of as I have a digital camera and use it a lot - it's unbelievably convenient. With a whole raft of image formats (including .JPG, obviously) you can:- -- View (various size/zoom options) - much quicker than IE, Quickview, etc -- rotate (90/180/270 deg., lossless for JPG's) - batches too -- set as wallpaper (tiled or centered) -- convert to another format (eg .BMP to .JPG) - batches too -- print - batches and thumbnail contact sheets too === WHAT WAS THE PROBLEM? === I was using version 1.32 (with Win'98) which worked fine except it was shareware and it kept nagging at me and I had to uninstall/reinstall it every month. I'd have paid up for it, but it's no longer for sale - and the later versions are very different - much bigger (like 5MB+) and nowhere near as simple and quick and easy to use. Then I found version 1.30 on a magazine cover CD, complete with registration details. Unfortunately, 1.30 proved to be very buggy on rotation and subsequent viewing of rotated images; and the registration details are no good for the 1.32 version. === WHAT IS THE SOLUTION? === Version 1.31! (Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows NT 4.0, Windows 2000) Works a treat, and the registration details for 1.30 work a treat, too! ;-) I found copies of PicaView 1.31 (942KB - 965,280 bytes) here:- http://www.elektronik.edu.pl/download/download/graphics/ http://hany.new21.org/hany/friend/share.htm ************************************************************** http://libretto.basiclink.com - Libretto mailing list http://libretto.basiclink.com/archive - Archives http://www.picante.com/~gtaylor/portable/faq.html - FAQ -------TO UNSUBSCRIBE------- Reply to any of the list messages.
