Bah ... thats OK, we understand, as long as you still keep your daily ritual of worshipping your Librettos first ;-) I had a Portege 3010 (PII 266) for a while (unfortunately it was a company laptop that I couldn't hang on to) and I loved it (although not as much as my current or past Libretto of course!) ... as far as little laptops go, its the best thing since the little Libbys and I imagine the 7020 is very similar to the 7010 (PII 300) which is in turn an upgraded version of the 3010. Just out of interest, about how much are they worth nowadays? I'd even forgive you for going to a Toshiba Satellite 5xxx series ... gawd those machines are nice, if not a bit big (they're full sized laptops so they won't replace a libretto, they'd probably replace a desktop though). I've been drooling over them for a while, especially the P4 1.7 with half a gig of RAM, GeForce4, CDRW/DVD, 1600x1200 screen and so on ... pitty about the price (not that they're expensive for what they've got - they're a darn sight cheaper than anything else equivalent, its just I don't have that sort of money free to start with ... heh). > I still have (and will continue to use) two librettos, if that's any help, > but this one's a bit more heavyweight for writing software... I'd have to agree with you on that one ... coding on the libby is pretty darn tricky (although there are many situations where there IS no other way to code). The Portege range from a year or 2 ago would be ideal 'steps up' from the Libby (if you're not comfortable with the Transmeta alternative). If you could throw around a libby like you would a paperback novel, you could probably throw around one of those Porteges like you would a textbook. The new Porteges (4xxx series) I'm not too sure of ... they seemed a lot thicker but flimsier than the all-magnesium Porteges of the past although I only played with one for a few minutes ... weird how Toshiba decided to go SmartMedia on their lower end Satellites, SecureDigital on their newer Porteges and dual SmartMedia/SecureDigital on their high end Satellites ... but I digress. > Public humiliation and abuse may now commence. Nah we reserve that for people who buy Dell, IBM, Fujitsu or Sony laptops. As for those sad people who buy laptops by Compaq, Acer, Winbook, Asus or any of the other nasty brands, I'm not sure even being chained to a burning stake with a hairy lightbulb strapped to their head, being forced to wear a miniskirt and having 'unscribble' tattooed on their back would be enough ;-) - Raymond P.S. in the light of a certain other post I made in the recent past, I should probably add the point that my comments regarding people being burnt at the stake for buying Compaq laptops and the like are made purely in jest, as is consistent with the general idea of this thread and the running 'joke' of this mailing list. I have had bad experiences with Compaq and Acer laptops but I also recognise that they are good for some things. Yes, really, I mean that. ;-) ************************************************************** http://libretto.basiclink.com - Libretto mailing list http://www.silverace.com/libretto/ - Archives -------TO UNSUBSCRIBE------- Reply to any of the list messages.
