Well, I tore the bottom half of the L70 apart, not the lid, and had a look around. The ding by the rear left SPR screw hole doesn’t seem to have anything important behind it. It’s on the top half of the case. There was a piece of plastic by it, and one on the other side with the markings “>ABB+PCC<” on it. There’s no evidence of damage to the MB that I could find with my poor eyesight and magnifying glasses. But now I do remember looking it over last fall a bit more thoroughly when I fixed the blown fuse, and I couldn’t find anything wrong then. I couldn’t find a magnifier to take a closer look at the dent in the monitor lid cable just above the MB plug. But I watched the cable as I moved the lid, and there was little if any noticeable movement. I looked into the hinge where the cable is wound, and didn’t see any evidence of damage of any kind. Since I couldn’t get the problem to reoccur, trying another battery and pulling out the battery pack didn’t prove a useful test. The separation of the lid halves on the underside edge (lid open for viewing) by the hinges is only in the order of maybe 1/20 or so, a bit less that 1/16 inch. I haven’t attempted separating the lid yet, so I don’t know what may be going on in there. I guess I’ll just wait until the problem returns before doing any further testing.
