I wasn't aware that the terms "PCMCIA" and "PC Card" described two 
distinctly different card types.  I always thought the former was the 
organization that defined a group of cards that were referred to as the 
latter.  That the terms were used interchangeably, and that the latter just 
became an easier term to describe the hardware.
