The 70 can do most of what the 110/100 can do. What it can't (like run
XP or usb) I don't need anyway so I, at least, don't need to upgrade.
The processor is definately fast enough and I heard about a third
party ram upgrade which allows greater than 32 megs of ram. If that
can be increased then that pretty much allievates any need for an
upgrade for years. Most of the newer software that requires high
powered cpus and gigabits of ram is no better than the older which
have more resonable system requirements. I use my 70 for programmming,
crunching numbers and word processing mainly anyway which doesn't
require mainframe capability. When I use it for board layout I can
emulate a 800 by 600 which is what the program needs. Circuit
simulation runs pretty darn fast. It handles requirements for the
internet. It easily handles a customer database and prints to a infred
printer for travel so its easy to print billing reciepts and such and
the hard drive has plenty of storage room so theres no problem keeping
records. The battery life is fairly good at 3 hours. It handles faxes
well and I already own all the 16 bit pcmcia cards I need so I don't
have to worry about not finding compatible cards. There are always
some on ebay though so if one breaks it is easily replaceable. It has
a color screen and is small light and easily packed. It doesn't use a
lot of proprietary connectors so third party stuff will work so
replacing a power supply is no problem. The screen is big enough so
reading on it is no problem. The 70 is a pretty good little computer
even if it is a little outdated.
