The mics are the very heart of recording. In order to record sound well in varying settings, the professionals have a quiver of different mics to draw from for each individual recording situation. I'm not famliar with them all myself, but I know they're not cheap. However I think I'd want at least three types. Ones with a narrow field (is that how they'd be described...
