I do keep up with tech stuff though and found out about the Long Beach project in November when I was in Southern CA on a biz/grandson trip! I followed what they were doing right up to the grand unveiling of their wireless system this week. Pretty exciting stuff - I wish our city fathers had that much vision! Local government is footing the bill for the Long Beach project but it sounds like they have some good partnerships with local tech companies and businesses who will benefit but as it spreads to the rest of Long Beach there will be costs to the local taxpayers. However, this would be offset by free access to the internet. I think the whole idea is great in that it gives the chance for all the citizens there to have web access with all of the possibilities that will bring, culturally, economically and socially!
