Thank you for responding to my questions... I am going to try and do what you
have typed.. and see if that works, kinda scared to do anything to a "WORKING
LAPTOP" but the AOL is starting to act up and I need to get a CD driver or
something to get the CD drive to work.
I'll keep you posted..
Has anyone had PROBLEMS installing 98se on a 70CT?
thanks
SAM
Win98SE will go onto your 70 nicely. But if you have had Win95 on your Libby with AOL installed for some time, there's a good chance your Operating System may be experiencing a lot of little problems. AOL is such a huge program, it may as well be an OS of it's own.
If you're not having many problems with the Win95 installation, and your only problem is access to your CD-ROM drive, that might be fixed by going to the Panasonic website, and downloading the latest drivers for your model CD-ROM. Unzip or extract the driver files to a folder and remember the folder name.
Then go into Device Manager in System Properties, and delete the entry for your Panasonic CD-ROM. If it's not there, re-boot, hit F8 when the system beeps, and go into Safe Mode, find the Panasonic CD-ROM driver in Device Manager there, and delete it.
Reboot the system with the CD-ROM connected, and if the drive is Plug and Play, Windows will find it and ask for the location of the driver files. Point it to the folder where you extracted them. If you're lucky, that should get your CD-ROM working. If not... let us know.
If you're having all kinds of problems with your Win95 installation, and the system has been used for a long time, installing and removing a lot of programs, the OS may be corrupt enough to warrant reformatting your hard drive and installing a fresh copy of Win98SE. You would want to back all your data first, and download all of the drivers for your 70CT first. The Win98SE installation files can be copied to your hard drive, and then you can drop to DOS, or boot from a system floppy disk, delete everything, and run the Windows setup from there. But then you will have to reinstall all of your 70CT drivers, and any software.
There are a lot of approaches people take to reformat a hard drive, and install a fresh copy of Windows on a Libretto. If you're not that technically inclined, maybe just upgrading your copy of Win95 to Win98SE will be good enough. But no matter what direction you choose to go, you'll first have to get those CD-ROM drivers, and get the drive working.
