For me, I go with 3COM ethernet cards all the time. Used Linksys and Dlink
cards, but hate the external dongles they use and prefer the 3Com Xjack or Type
III cards instead.

Both LinkSys cards ($40 for both 16 bit and 32 bit) and the D-Link 32 bit card ($30) have those nice fat exterior sockets. But my question is, are there things that the 32 bit cardbus models are capable of that the 16 bit card (which I could use in the L70) is >not< capable of? EG: transfer certain rates? Any reason to go with 32 bit cards over the 16 bit one?

I'd like to be able use the card in both L70 and L100 if possible.

Here, the 16-bit 3COM cards from years ago will work fine and cheap.
www.ebay.com sells the XJACK models I prefer all the time for <$10. A plus is
that most OSs 2K/XP (maybe 98 depending on model) already have the drivers
built-in so you don't have to load any at all.

I do have one X-Jack modem which has been nice, but still really prefer the modems with the large exterior case with plug sockets.

The 3Com Type III combo 10/100 + 56Kb (blue) 32-bit card is perfect for my
L110. The problem still with Xjacks (and more so with dongles) is that you can
easily damage the weak connection point due to the weight of the cable (dongle)
or due to accidents (pull cord). The 3Com Type III combo has flush, internal
jacks for both modem & ethernet, so it's a no brainer when storing the Libretto
(nothing to retract, flush) and works great on my L110.

Do you have a model number and price for that model David. With the combo feature, I'm guessing it's going to be a bit more expensive than the 3 NIC cards I mnetioned above.
