Recently I bought a Hitach 7K60 60 GB hard disk (8 MB cache, 7200 rpm)
Wonder if this 7200 rpm drive has the same 'magic finger's' massage feature my 5400 rpm Hitachi DK23FB-40 (8 MB cache) gives me when my fingers rest on the keyboard! Anyone with faster HDDs in their Libbys notice a little vibration from the drive?
More to the point, I wonder if these ultra high speed (over twice as fast as the Libretto's original drive!) hard drives cause any power problems or heat problems for the poor little Librettos! I know my Fujitsu 20 gig drive (4000 rpm or so IIRC) heats up more than the original drive did ...
Power consumption was the 1st factor I considered when looking around for a new HDD. Like you Raymond, I live where it can get pretty hot. I never got my L100 to be stable clocked to 266 in the heat here. Once or twice my 20GB HDD got hot enough to shut down my stock 120MHz L70. But the specs for power consumption on this DK23FB-40, and many of the newer 40GB+ 5400+ RPM " HDDs I checked were actually the same as my 20GB Hitachi. The technology seems to have gotten more efficient. Don't know about the 7200 beasts though.
I'm still having problems with posts coming to my Hotmail account days after they're posted. Is anyone else having this problem?
Matt
