Subject: Slackware 8

I just installed Slackware on my 110CT. Marvelously easy to do. It did take some time since I didn't have any installation hardware except the hard drive, plus I am using Windows tools to control my booting process and they are incompatible with other operating systems. Great learning experience. This is the correct process to install it from the hard drive using a bootable DOS partition. Download the Dosboot, a, and ap directories from the Slackware Linux site. Unzip install.zip into the DOS partition keeping the directory structure. Install a Linux kernel in the now cr5eated Linux directory. Create the Linux partition and format it. Disable any boot managers after making the DOS partition the primary bootable. Shut down and reboot to DOS. Edit the Linux.bat file in the Linux directory to point to the Linux kernel. Run the file. Linux will boot and make a tempory installation. Log in and run setup. Install into the Linux partition. Configure and be sure to install Lilo as the boot manager since, to be honest, I don't think a person can run Windows software with non-windows systems without problems. Select manual installation during the Lilo setup to make sure all bootable drives are found on the computer. Exit setup and reboot into Linux and you will then have a nicely running basic installation. Very easy--no?
