That's what I was thinking John. Though later on Richard seemed to be
saying that he had a CTRL or CAPS LOCK key stuck on the place where the ALT
should be. If that's the case, it could be someone had been having
problems with the system before Richard got it, and the switch may have
been an indication of an attempt to fix it.

If you think reseating may help you Richard, it's an easy enough process.

* Remove the thin plastic strip above the keyboard
* Unscrew the philips head screw holding the keyboard down
* Carefully lift the keyboard. It will have two grounding straps
connectining it to the MB on either end, and the ribbon cable in the
center.
* Use a small flat watch screwdriver to push the tab on the right side of
the ribbon lock towards the screen edge of the system just a little bit.
* Repeat on the left side, and alternate until the ribbon is free.
* Reseat and lock the ribbon a few times.
* Reassemble and test.

As for your FDD, you may not have installed the Toshiba utilities driver
package. I had that problem when they switched the name of the darned
thing at some point. What I have is the file called: l50utils.exe .. And
I think the critical file among many it contains is: FDCMON.VXD .. That
should get your floppy drive going in Windows. If that's what you have,
then.... ???
