You can run both just fine. 2K has unicode support, better multilanguage, multiuser support with better file seperation, etc. but nothing necessarily 'better' for only one user for the basics of web surfing and email. Plug & Play works better than 98 though if you plugging in a lot of new devices.... Footprint will be about 2x bigger than 98, so more resources taken up by 2k = less for you and slower running than 98.
