How does one pull a release? I don't think it is possible.

Replace the tarball with a message that says. D'oh! Sorry, this release was stillborn, please get this other one instead....

The original tarball can be deleted from the official FSF site but it is likely already mirrored to a 1000 places which use various mirror rules.

Does FSF recommend 'a', 'b', 'c' notation for fixed releases, or does it recommend adding another decimal place?

Actually, I think they recommend 'a' suffix IIRC...

This is indeed a rather serious issue so I recommend creating a new release ASAP using the process that the FSF recommends for "quick fix" re-releases.
