If you are using Qt-GUI. Please change the "Translation = " in ~/.licq/licq.conf to "none" > When partner use ICQ version 2003b - everything ok, except first messages (I > explain this behaviour in previous letter). I have an idea about this one.. perhaps you can try sending a different encoding to him? My idea is that when you send a message, his ICQ client says that it supports UTF8, so then you start sending it UTF8 automatically. Before that happens, your messages are sent according to the encoding you have selected. Please try changing it to a different Russian encoding.
