Join the club, heh. But I'm positive it works, I've tried it out on a few friends. 
Looks like it's pretty easy to mask though, but most don't know/bother yet.

I understand the protocol issues must be quite demanding, but when you have time for 
the UI again please consider this. Making a tabbed window containing all your 
conversations sticky is a great way to keep chatting away with half a dozen people 
even though you work in several workspaces. I found individual windows would either 
clutter the screen or get in the way of eachother.
