Update: I updated the other servlet to scala 2.8 and lift 1.1 snapshot (much easier than I thought, I must be getting used to it) and I checked the libs for both webapps and the commons lib directory.. no conflicting versions of scala or lift jars.. I'm on Tomcat 6 btw.. Not sure where to look next..
