You said :

"There are many things out there that want our attention.  And
all they have to do is tell one little white lie and we miss the truth."

You pre-suppose that we should, or do listen to people expecting that whatever they have to say is "THE TRUTH".
This does not sound very wise, nor does it incorporate any discernment.  Whatever information you are seeking or hearing, it should be sent through your inner spiritual wisdom.  I personally face all things skeptically until, through prayer and searching it clears my
Truth-o-meter. ( Christians often call this the Holy Spirit )  Believe me (or not) that the Holy Spirit will let you know what is truth for you and what is not.  Further, your assumption that those of us in this group do not believe (or know) that there is a Prime
Creator that you call GOD, is almost insulting.  I am curious as to how you came to this definition.   There is only one truth, God IS!  God is ALL!  God is All that IS!  No matter how you shorten it or lengthen it, it does not change. If God is ALL, then as his/her creations we are each a piece of God.  If God is ALL . . .All is GOD!  All other truths are man made or individually variable to a persons ability to understand and comprehend things of a Higher nature.  (my truth).

Your literal interpretation of the Bible is yours and most of us on this list are more familiar with literalist rhetoric than we ever wanted to be. I don't mean that in a personal or negative way to you and your beliefs.  I am an ordained minister of the Christian persuasion and I have been down just about every road that you can and probably more than you would ever wish to traverse on that path. What is important is that a person is on a path to their spiritual culmination,  what path that is is their FREE WILL choice.
What current Christian Religions want to promote is that THEIR PATH IS THE ONLY PATH, and what the Universal "truth" is
is that ALL PATHS return to their source and Prime Creator.  Those who interfere with others free will choices are treading on dangerous ground.

These are my humble opinion after a lifetime of study and seeking the "TRUTH".
I wish you Peace and Love on your chosen path.
