Indeed, it's a bit too heavy. However, the old version is too thin.
Can you investigate whether there is a possibility to artificially slant
the bold ottava glyph a bit? Or what about using a freely available
semi-bold font? Or probably a italic semibold font? It's really not
necessary that this solitary digit is exactly the same font as other digits
in a score...
