This one should work "reasonably well". It does not have the nice look of
the PNGs achieved with the "strokepath clip" version, but it looks good
under _current_ poppler rendering (though less well with older poppler
versions). The improvements for Ghostscript's rendering are not fabulous,
but at least they appear to be more than nothing. I had attempted various
kinds of more complicated things without convincing results.
I'll probably try getting the nice look for the webpage PNGs back (just for
direct Ghostscript bitmap devices, not affecting PDF production). But at
any rate: the output of this version should pretty much be what PDF would
look like, so please give it a beating.
