Oh, there is nothing we can do anyway about the amount of time I already
put into this. One can just at one point decide to not throw good time
after the bad time. Overall, I am not happy enough with the current
results. It is not just the matter of PDF sizes: even the straight bitmap
rendering is not fabulously convincing, and not just at 600dpi but even at
1200dpi. The combination of clip area and stroke seems to be a bit too
tricky. The previewers look reasonably well, but it seems like the price
for that is a bit too high. With the next iteration the previewers will
likely look worse again, but maybe the overall balance will be better.
