I agree the name "\or" would be meaningless to most, if not all,
non-programmers. The "first" implication needs to be captured in the name
too, so I'd be happier with "\first-non-empty" or, better
still, "\first-printable" or "\first-visible". These are all pretty well
self-descriptive.
