Comment #33 on issue 4076 by [email protected]: allow bn for B-natural in
English
https://code.google.com/p/lilypond/issues/detail?id=4076
Comment #31 seems to get the idea.
The convention on which the usefulness of 'bn' to be helpful is just a
personal style but also the way we name the note in English, when
the "-natural" is noteworthy.
The concern before was due to the fact that we skip pronouncing the "-flat"
in B-flat when it so obvious that pronouncing it would be merely annoying.
Some people stop _thinking_ "-flat" in those cases, thinking of B as the
name of the scale-step, which might lead to mistakes in pitch entry. I
thought that allowing 'bn' would help those users to remember "type the
explicit pitches"; the mailing list thought allowing 'bn' would postpone a
needed re-education.
Therefore we can keep the easier-to-find \language"english" in case people
are spurred to re-learn by the error message upon 'bn', and let them switch
to \language"brief" if they consciously decide that they want "'an'
and 'bn' as synonyms for 'a' and 'b'".
