I find it quite useful for finding and repairing input errors, and don't
want to be selfish with this superior entry method.
The example up in comment #3 would conventionally be entered "as as an as
as an an an" and any mixed-in 'a' would raise suspicions.
Let's consider an added language, which would also give a way for
\displayLilyMusic \transpose d a {d4 fs a cs'}
to produce the short note-names for users who use \displayLilyMusic to
generate a starting-point from which to edit music.
