TL;WR? I believe Frederico is correct in saying that there is no longer any
reason to steer people to gmane.
I don't set policy for the mailing lists - I just follow/enforce the policies
set by the project leadership. (I'll admit I'm not really sure who that is
nowadays but David Kastrup is definitely on my personal list of Lilypond
leaders.)
The Lilypond mailing lists *are* moderated ... to prevent spam from swamping
the lists. That you think any of these are low-volume lists is actually a sign
that this configuration is successful; the moderators (plural) are doing a good
job of stripping spam from the input stream.
Because the moderators let through almost anything through to a Lilypond list
that is relevant to the purpose of that list, it's not really necessary to go
through gmane to post as a non-subscriber. If a message is relevant, it will
still be posted.
