As far as I know, there fonts were not changed from 1.8.1 to 1.9.2, so you could try to extract the files from ftp://mirror.direct.ca/pub/linux/debian/pool/main/l/lilypond/lilypond_1.8.1-1_i386.deb for example.

p.s. I see 2.0 is out: is there a way I can upgrade on Mac OS X? Can I help build a binary installer for other users? (I'm a computer programmer, so I can probably handle the requirements, but have never done that sort of thing specifically, so would have to be hand-held the first time...)
