Please open an issue in the tracker, provide real-world images (ideally with a larger zoom), and mark it as 'enhancement'.
I note that although Gould and the other writers don't address this specific case, they do have a closely related case (which to my mind is equivalent) in which they specify that the ledger line on the side of an offset note away from the stave is shortened (Gould, page 27, second para; Read and Ross show the same in examples without stating it explicitly).
