Agreed. And (i.e., “more to your point”): since musical notes/events begin “at 
the same moment in time”, and time is [almost always] presented on the 
left-to-right axis in musical scores, the “beginning” of simultaneous events 
should line up vertically.

The Bärenreiter scans make this point crystal clear: in their font, whole notes 
and sub-whole notes have identical widths.
