To my eye, they’re the same approach (at least fundamentally):
attach lyrics to a voice that has all necessary rhythms, and then
use some mechanism to turn display of the notes off.
Just a thought on another possible technique, although I haven’t used
it much if at all in my music:
Manual syllable durations might be a good option for you.
