Hi, Sara,

I should clarify that the only reason I asked Paula to do this work is that she was already scheduled to come to my house for some other work.  She's typically so busy, that unless it's an emergency, there's a multi-month wait to get some of her time. She's worth the wait but when I've needed something done right away that doesn't need her skill, I have opted for someone else.

Thank you to all who sent me info and advice re: repairing my dishwasher.  Apologies for taking so long (7 weeks) to reply. I wanted to wait until I actually had the problem solved so I could report on the results.  But washing dishes by hand was much easier than troubleshooting or otherwise getting it fixed.  So I didn't get around to working on the problem until this week. I ended up having my handy person (Paula Robinson) look at it when she was here for some other work.  She's the person who installed it.  The problem was a small piece of plastic that was jamming a rotor of some kind.  Below is the info I received.

  * American Appliance in Waltham -- 781-893-8296 (3 votes)
  * D Boy Appliance repair -- 781-899-7000 in Waltham
  * Pete Bright at Bright Appliance Repair in Acton -- 978-263-6963

_**__*Troubleshooting advice:*_

  * Does it drain if you reset it? If so, then the drain is fine and
    something else is the problem.Possible causes -- pump failure,
    faulty electrical connection, timer failure (needed to initiate
    drain cycle).
  * Dishwasher comes apart for regular cleaning. Check filter inside
    the bottom. Needs to be taken out and cleaned periodically. It
    just twists out. (several people)
  * Try to clear the drain -- I did remove/clean the easily
    accessible parts at the bottom, probably what people meant by
    clean filter/regular cleaning.   I did not do any further taking
    apart of things or try to access the drain pipe to check for
    blockage.
  * Check dishwasher's instruction manual for directions on how to
    unclog various filters and connections on the bottom of the
    dishwasher -- If you don't have the manual, it is probably
    available on line.
  * Do Google search for the make, model, and error message.
  * 10 year old dishwasher is old. An appliance person can take a
    look and tell you whether it's worth fixing or not. A nice, quiet
    Bosch can be obtained for about $600-800 depending on what
    features you want.
