Sara, your problem is likely caused by a delay from the *source* to the sound bar. (Note, I am far from an expert on A/V setups, so I could be wholly wrong on this stuff.) I presume this problem exists regardless of the source app that you're trying to watch (e.g., Netflix, HBO, Hulu, whatever).
It appears from your description that your primary source is Apple TV. If so, then the gating question is whether your set up is, roughly, to have the signal running from Apple TV (via an HDMI cable, almost certainly) to: 1. The LG TV (through an HDMI input), and then sound running from the TV *out* (via HDMI or Optical cable, most likely) to the Sonos soundbar; or 2. A receiver (through an HDMI input), and then the video signal is sent from the receiver to the TV (via HDMI output), and the *audio* output is sent from the receiver to the Sonos soundbar. The first thing to try is to do a RESET of the Apple TV itself. Some people report success with just that; others report initial success, before the lag returns. If you do see an improvement, even if temporary, then it's the Apple TV. But while you should try that first, I suspect that it isn't, since it was working fine before the soundbar. What may be happening is that the device processing the audio and video is losing synchronization. This can be fixed through a setting on that device. So, if it's #1 above, check your LG TV. Enter your model number into google and you can find something like this: https://www.lg.com/us/support/help-library/lg-tv-av-sync-adjustment-CT10000018-1387832191561 You can also check the Sonos soundbar settings by connecting via the Sonos App, and adjusting the audio sync via the app. Note, you reported that the audio is *BEHIND* the video (i.e., the sound arrives too late), so that may be due to advanced signal processing in either the Apple TV or the LG TV hardware. Try turning off advanced sound processing, like ATMOS or other surround sound settings and see if the error continues. See https://support.sonos.com/s/article/3336?language=en_US If you run it through a receiver (#2 above), check the manual for your receiver. Start by changing audio output modes - most receivers will have a variety of surround sound modes, and see if that resolves the problem. Some receivers will also have a similar adjustment to fix audio delays. Both were purchased together at BestBuy. Both were installed by BB Geek Squad. The TV was installed by knowledgeable tech and all was well. He managed to navigate our complex web of receivers, Apple TV, CD player, and old Sony sound system. All was well, except the soundbar would not arrive for 2 months…the usual supply-chain issues. At installation of the soundbar, the sound did not synch with the picture-lips moved before sound arrived. The installer played around with things, shrugged and told me to work with my app…and left. Really? We have fiddled and fiddled and had a friend who is an audio expert try to get this thing to work. He was able to improve things, but not create a total synch. We have FIOS (which, since Verizon “upgrade” wires a few weeks ago, now cuts in and out). We have Apple TV. We have this wonderful new TV And we have a soundbar which definitely improves sound and voices, but, does not play nicely with the picture on the TV. Now, we are awaiting the next round of the GeekSquad to arrive, but have not expectations. Any ideas out there? Sara PS I have tried repeatedly to connect with the original salesperson, but the BestBuy system does not allow for any phone connection to the store! I was told I need to go to the store to talk to anyone. Buyer beware. ------ Sara Mattes -- The LincolnTalk mailing list. To post, send mail to [email protected].
