Debra: I appreciate the question. The reason that I am running is that I saw a proposal to rezone a significant area in south Lincoln that would allow higher density housing. While I believe it is in the town’s best interest to have more housing, particularly affordable housing, I am concerned that there are significant unintended consequences to that plan. A parcel that has existing housing and is rezoned for higher density encourages property owners and developers to teardown existing units and build newer and very likely more expensive units. This I believe, is a real concern.
Further housing development or redevelopment in the area is extremely difficult. As I am sure you are aware, most of the area is already developed, is wetland area or is conservation land. It is critical that any new plans for south Lincoln be developed in a process that includes inputs from the Lincoln community, particularly the south Lincoln community and that the process must finish with a town meeting vote. The planning board can help make this happen. Clearly I have not provided a solution for additional housing in south Lincoln but I have been clear as how I think the process should be conducted.
