I used an Italian lawyer to obtain my dual citizenship, because I had a
complicated case. In order to determine if you need a lawyer or can just go
through the Consulate (mind you there is a multi-year wait to get an
appointment), you should first familiarize yourself with if you are eligible
and then what documents are required. There are several helpful online chat
groups: Dual U.S.-Italian Citizenship and Italian Dual Citizenship on Facebook
and on Tapatalk-Italian citizenship Message Board.
